Living to Change

In our world today, the people alive have been through many changes. The car was invented for some; the internet was invented for others. For some of those still alive, they have lived through both. Think about it, some people were 20 when a car was invented and others were just children or not even born. Some people today have only lived with cars being fancy and having such capabilities as cell phones.

You know those times when you are on the road, and road rage takes over because of the person in front of you is driving so slow. Then as you approach you notice how elderly they appear. Thinking to yourself, “why do they have a driver’s license?”

I grew up on a farm and was learning to drive tractors and farm trucks at an early age. My Uncle Eugene even let me drive to Monroe, WI from Calamine on all the back roads when I was 14. Getting my license was a breeze.

Computers are another thing that is huge in today’s world. Again, some of the older population is afraid of them and do not want anything to do with them. Even people my age will do everything possible to avoid computers. “Facebook! You have to be crazy to do that!”

You see I grew up with a little bit of the typewriter and the age of the commodore computer. By the time I got to college the education system was becoming largely based on computers. I had college friends that know a great deal more than me about computers. I also had those friends that I explained everything to about computers.

You see no matter what it is, there is something that someone does not understand. As humans, it is natural for us to fear something we do not understand. It can be scary for the elderly person driving the car who is not used to the power of an automatic. It can be scary for those who do not understand computers and technology.

Whether it is an elderly person driving a modern car, or a young person who does not understand computers. The world is an ever changing place, so we can learn to adapt and change, or let the world pass us by. Every person turning about the age of 10 is now learning on the same curve the rest of us in the world are, no matter how old we are.

If you do not continue to learn and change, those from a newer generation will become the ones you look up to rather than those who are older than you. The teetering point is different for different individuals, based on different subjects and what each person has been exposed to.

Think about it, everyone can think of at least one thing they really know a lot about. Maybe it is cooking that one recipe better than anyone else. Maybe it is rocket science. No matter how simple or complex, there is that one thing!

Each person in their particular field is ever changing. They are being further educated within their specialty. Whether it be through trial and error, or continue education credits.

There are many challenges facing us today. Leave me some comments about how you are living to change? What changes are you making in your life?
